Questions and Answers
The information in this section are questions that have been asked by students or prospects of the school. Often the information given to the people who asked the questions is from a friend or an instructor who does not understand the techniques correctly. We found this out from asking them where they heard it. This is a new section and will be added to whenever something is asked often.
Question: I've heard it takes 35% of your energy to throw someone is this true? Answer: No, it is as effortless as hitting if you use the right throw for the right situation.
Question: I've been told it takes 15 to 30 seconds to choke someone out is this true?
Answer: No, it almost instantaneous if applied correctly. This has been proven to me countless times as well as me demonstrating it to my own students. Although, we stop the second they feel the pressure. This way no one passes out.
Question: I have a friend who takes another style with multiple joint locking techniques but can not make them work on me. How come yours work?
Answer: Because we always hit you first before trying to apply the lock. When your friends skill level increases they will be more effective.
Questions:How come there are so many Kenpo organizations and who is right?
Answer:Everyone and no one. There were many different organizations before SGM Parker passed on and there are a lot more now. It's all Kenpo, all effective, and great self defense. Most organiztions are people who wanted to do there own thing. Some people feel Kenpo should be the original way, some feel it should be the way SGM Parker left it before he died, others feel it should continue to change. They are all right.
Questions: What in your opinion is the best Martial Art?
Answer: All of them! If it protects you, stops you from getting hurt, and you enjoy it. Then what ever you are taking is the best.
Questions: Who puts out the best Kenpo videos?
Answer: Loaded Question! I have not seen anyones videos. To judge someone elses work is wrong and we don't do that here. This is an egotists market because every Kenpo master feels his are the best. Check them out and you decide! At this dojo we feel they probably all have merit.
Expalnations
In this section we will attempt to answer some of the more complicated questions. This information may not be totally complete but its the best we can do.
Is the jujitsu taught today real?
The most popular jujitsu on the market today is Gracie Jujitsu. Yes it is a real form of jujitsu but it does not compare to traditional Japanese Jujitsu. Traditional Japanese Jujitsu is absolutely brutal. Some instuctors of the traditional style refer to it as pure death and they are not wrong. The trouble with traditional jujitsu is very few people are willing to suffer the years of pain, broken bones, and torture it takes to learn the real jujitsu system. But keep in mind Gracie system is very good and should not be under estimated.
Judo is another form of what was traditional jujitsu. Dr. Jigoro Kano had multiple black belts in many different styles of jujitsu. Kano Sensei took what he considered to be the best of the throws, strikes, chokes and holds and developed Judo. Yes, there are kicking and hitting technique in Judo. (Atemi Waza is the name of this set of technique. Most Judo instructors do not teach it because of insurance reasons.) People who do study Judo will tell you it is absolutely brutal, with standing and working ground technique.
